Back to music lyric headlines.
Happy Thanksgiving. Make
it an everyday thing, yeah I hate when people say that too.
Last time we talked I was apologizing for the two very
specific things I did to harm others. On
this holiday I was thinking about the times I almost met tragedy myself.
In 1986 playing football, really just in practice, I was on
the bottom of a pile of very large young men (hello!) and my arm was pinned
quite awkwardly. As the pile was
de-piling? Weight shifted and my arm
bent and I felt the bone starting to…well I was certain it was going to snap
and nothing I could do about it with my face in the dirt and people shifting
atop me. Instead of sinking down the person
on top of me was pulled up by a teammate and my arm was free and out of danger.
In 1991 I was white water rafting, so not like me but I was
twenty and hanging out with people who did those sorts of things, and I fell
over the side of the boat. It was a
river and I figured to hit the bottom and bounce back up. I was born in Minnesota so almost drowning
was a regular occurrence of my youth, a contest most of the time to see who
could hold their breath longer, but I made several miscalculations that
day. I had thought on a river that the
bottom was relatively close so I had no large intake of breathe. I was in a boat with several people so I had
a notion that someone might throw out a hand to stop me or maybe help me
up. Even after I realized that I was in
a spot of the river where bottom was several feet lower than I guessed I still
didn’t think I was nearly as deep as I was.
By the time I started to really swim for surface I was out of air and my
hand broke surface, grabbed the boat and I was dragged out of the water or else
I am fairly sure I would have sank back down.
No airplane bumps, no car crashes and no fistfight ever made
me more afraid than those two occasions.
So today, like every day I am thankful for all I have and all I still
have a chance to have.
Now on to the really depressing news.

So the competition is finally the competition and I have to
get off my ass now.
Hope you had a great holiday and aren’t in line this Friday.
